Special Intercession at Holy Mass

Have you ever stopped to consider what a privilege it is to become a sponsor of a particular Mass? To help provide for the vestments, the candles, the incense, the bread, the wine for the Holy Sacrifice? It’s no wonder this was such a popular custom in the past.
Certainly, however, it was not done simply out of piety. In the generation of our grandparents, people simply understood better the whole concept of intercession and the role it plays in the spiritual life. (And they were more shrewd about obtaining it!)
There was an understanding that God is not going to allow himself to be outdone in generosity. People knew that if they provide for a Mass, God would especially bend his ear to their petitions. In fact, when you sponsor a Mass there is a special intercession made at the Commemoration of the Living during that particular Mass, asking God to be mindful of you.
Really, there is no greater gift we can give to one another (and to our friends and family suffering in Purgatory) than the gift of intercession at Holy Mass.
There are two ways to offer a Mass intentions:
A Single Mass Intention
You can have a single Mass offered for any special intention. The single Mass intention can be offered for the living or the dead.
A Gregorian
You can also have a Gregorian offered. A Gregorian is 30 consecutive Masses offered for the repose of the soul of a faithful departed friend or family member. During the Gregorian, there is an intercession made at the Commemoration of the Dead for 30 consecutive days during 30 consecutive Masses on behalf of the individual soul.
