What We Do
Bringing the Light of Christ
In a world which has become less and less in harmony with natural and supernatural reality, the Society of Saint John helps the light of God pierce through the darkness. To do so, the Society taps into the power of two principal sources given to us in the great tradition of the Church, namely:
The Sacred Liturgy and Lectio Divina.
By using these two gifts to their fullest, the members of the Society of Saint John strive to be matured in Faith, Hope, and Love. And as we learn and grow, we look to be a source of information and guidance for you, our neighbor.
For our faith gives us the hope that, if we unite in love, the light of Christ will indeed conquer.
Following the Pope
As Pope Benedict says in his encyclical Deus Caritas Est: “God has given his Son for our sakes and gives us the victorious certainty that it is really true: God is love! [Faith] thus transforms our impatience and our doubts into the sure hope that God holds the world in his hands and that... in spite of all darkness he ultimately triumphs in glory. Faith, which sees the love of God revealed in the pierced heart of Jesus on the Cross, gives rise to love. Love is the light—and in the end, the only light—that can always illuminate a world grown dim and give us the courage needed to keep living and working.”
In this same encyclical, the Pope invites each of us to: “Experience love and in this way to cause the light of God to enter into the world.”
The Members and Friends of the Society of Saint accept the Pope’s invitation. With great certitude do we hold that in Sacred Scripture and in Holy Mass and the Divine Office we will experience the love of God and thereby bring the light of Christ into our world.
